Det har varit oroligt vid gränsen mellan Gaza och Egypten. En egyptisk gränsvakt dödades och ett tiotal palestinier skadades idag. Oroligheterna bröt ut efter att en internationell hjälpsändning fördröjts i den egyptiska hamnstaden El-Arish. I går drabbade de internationella deltagarna i hjälpkonvojen samman med egyptiska säkerhetstyrkor i El-Arish. Enligt Egypten försöker man i hjälpsändningen föra in otillåtna varor till Gaza.
I Gaza är man också upprörd över att Egypten håller på att bygga en metallvägg längs gränsen för att förhindra byggandet av smuggeltunnlar.
Mahmoud Abbas däremot säger sig förstå Egypytens beslut att bygga metallväggen och säger att Egypten har rätt att skydda sitt territorium och förhindra smuggling. Enligt Abbas är det Hamas kupp som försorsakat problemen för invånarna i Gaza.
Abbas upprepade i en intervju i Qatar att Israel måste erkänna 1967 års gränser för att han skall vara beredd att förhandla med dem.

"The Palestinian leader also justified Egypt's construction of a steel wall that along its border with the Gaza Strip. Cairo has the "full right to protect its territory and prevent smuggling of illegal materials into Gaza," he said. "It is a sovereign and political decision of the Egyptian government and we understand that," Abbas added, reminding attendants of "the reasons for the Gaza siege. It is, in fact, the coup that Hamas staged that created all the problems for Gaza's residents," he said. "
Egyptian border guard killed in clash with Gaza protesters
"Egyptian security forces and Palestinians clashed at the Gaza border on Wednesday over the delay of an international aid convoy, killing one Egyptian border guard and wounding 15 Palestinians.
The incident further raises the tension between Egypt and the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip who see Cairo's attempts to seal the border as a direct threat to their survival, particularly a new effort to build a steel wall blocking cross-border tunnels...
...The incident follows a late night clash between international pro-Gaza activists and Egyptian security at El-Arish when Egypt refused to allow part of the convoy to enter its territory and move on to Gaza.
More than 50 activists and over a dozen members of the security forces were injured. Activists briefly seized some policemen as well. "
