Två israeler skadades när en ung palestinier knivhögg dem i gamla stan innanför Damaskusporten tidigt i morse. Terroristen som utförde knivhuggningarna sköts.

Vem skall försvara förföljda kristna?

Jag har märkt att västvärlden många gånger reagerar starkt om muslimer blir angripna (t.ex. i Nya Zeeland) men våldsdåd mot kristna väcker inte samma reaktioner. Vem skall försvara kristna som förföljs (till största delen i muslimska stater) om inte västvärlden gör det?
Istället för att skriva mer själv delar jag en artikel om ämnet av Raymond Ibrahim som bygger på en rapport av BBC:

Folkmord på kristna når "alarmerande skede"

- Många av världens mest förföljda kristna har inget överhuvudtaget att göra med kolonialism eller missionärer. De som drabbas mest av hot om folkmord – inklusive Syrien och Iraks assyrier eller Egyptens kopter – var kristna flera århundraden innan Europas kolonialisters förfäder blev kristna och missionerade.

- BBC-rapporten understryker "politisk korrekthet" som det största skälet till västvärldens likgiltighet ...

- Bland de värsta förföljarna är de som regerar enligt islamistisk lag, eller sharia – vilka akademiker som Georgetown Universitys John Esposito bestämt hävdar är rättvisa och skäliga. I Afghanistan (rankad tvåa) "har kristendomen inte rätt att existera".

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt who is on a week-long tour of Africa, said he thought governments had been "asleep" over the persecution of Christians but that this report and the attacks in Sri Lanka had "woken everyone up with an enormous shock".

Israel går till nyval i september

Netanyahu lyckades inte få ihop en ny regering inom fastställd tid och Knesset röstade i går för att utlysa nyval den 17 september.
Det var Avigdor Liberman som vägrade stöda Netanyahu och därmed förhindrade Netanyahu från att bilda en ny regering.
Det är lagen om de ultra ortodoxas medverkan i armén som uppges vara orsaken till att Liberman vägrade gå med i Netanyahus regering, men det verkar nog också vara så att Netanyahus och Libermans personkemi milt sagt inte fungerar.

Ett nederlag för Netanyahu kan det tyckas men i en analys i Jerusalem Post skriver Seth J. Frantzman att det inte alls behöver vara så.
Netanyahu fortsätter som premiärminister fram till september. Han behöver inte ta med Liberman i regeringen. I september kan han och hans parti Likud vara ännu starkare än de var i april.
Vem vet kanske det gick precis som planerat? Å andra sidan är det sant att om framtiden vet vi ingenting och hur läget är för Netanyahu, Likud och de andra partierna i september vet ingen i dag.

Palestinierna tror på sin egna lögner

Jag skrivit det förr och skriver det igen: Det är inte underligt att det inte under de senaste årtiondena gått att nå en fredsuppgörelse med de palestinska ledarna. De lever helt enkelt i en annan verklighet än vanliga människor. De sitter fast i sina egna lögner och anklagar andra för allt som är fel.
Nu är det palestiniernas kulturminister Atef Abu Saif som i en artikel anser att USA:s president Trump och andra amerikanska politiker borde åtalas för sina brott mot palestinierna.
Han anklagar bland annat Israel och USA för brott mot internationell lag och historieförfalskning, precis det som de palestinska ledarna håller på med.

Svåra markbränder i Israel - 3500 har evakuerats

Svåra markbränder härjar i Israel. Det torra vädret med temperaturer på över 40 grader gör att elden sprider sig snabbt.
Tiotals hus har brunnit och omkring 3500 personer har evakuerats undan lågorna.
Premiärminister Netanyahu har bett om internationell hjälp och åtminstone Italien,Grekland, Cypern och Kroatien har lovat sända flygplan för att delta i släckningsarbetet.

Man  kan fråga sig vad EU:s ekonomiska bidrag till den demokratiska processen har använts till. Since the Fatah and Hamas civil war in 2007, the sides have attempted to reconcile and have even signed several agreements, but to no avail. The power struggle is fundamental, and reconciliation - if at all realistic - is something for the distant future. Therefore, postponing elections until after reconciliation is an indefinite postponement that perpetuates the current dictatorial rule. While the international community has poured in tens of millions of dollars and euros specifically for the purpose of creating and sustaining a democratic Palestinian Authority, the results are abysmal. In the 25 years since the creation of the PA only two elections have been held for the position of PA Chairman. Yasser Arafat held the position for 10 years until his death in 2004. The current PA chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, just entered his fifteenth year as leader, although PA law limits a term to four years. In the 25 years since the PA was created, only two general elections have been held .The two elections took place ten years apart, the first one in 1996 and the other in 2006. While Fatah, the party of Arafat and Abbas, won the majority of seats in the PA Parliament [Legislative Council] in the first election, in the second election Hamas - designated internationally as a terrorist organization - won the majority of the seats in both the West Bank and Gaza. However, in the beginning of 2007, Abbas, unhappy with Hamas rule, appointed an alternative government. In June 2007, following a brief civil war, Hamas seized complete control of the Gaza Strip. Since then, for 12 years, the Fatah-controlled PA and Hamas have been trying to reach reconciliation. In December 2018, Abbas decided to dissolve the PA parliament, which officially still had a Hamas majority, relying on a decision of the Palestinian Constitutional Court, created by Abbas himself. The court also added a call to hold general elections "within six months." It would appear that Abbas accepted the part of the judicial decision that was convenient for him, and ignored that which was less convenient - the holding of elections. Soon after the decision of the court, Abbas disbanded the technocrat "reconciliation" government and appointed Shtayyeh to be the new Prime Minister, thus strengthening Fatah's control of the PA. With this latest announcement that the elections will be held "the moment national reconciliation is achieved," Abbas and Shtayyeh are really saying that they have no intention to hold general elections and will continue the dictatorship rule indefinitely. The "European Joint Strategy in support of Palestine 2017 - 2020" states that one of the major foundation stones on which the strategy is based is the "EU's non-negotiable principles" such as "democratic principles" and the "holding of elections." Given the absence of any semblance of PA democracy, the question begs, on what did the PA spend the tens of millions of dollars and euros of donor aid earmarked for creating and strengthening the PA democracy? Is the EU reconsidering its aid to the PA, or at least conditioning any further aid on seeing real steps to achieve the EU's "non-negotiable" "democratic principles"? Or is the EU going to abandon these "non-negotiable principles" to continue its support for the Abbas/Shtayyeh/Fatah dictatorship? The following is a longer except of Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh's announcement: "[PA] Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh emphasized that the [PA] government is doing all that it can in order to hold elections the moment national reconciliation is achieved. He noted that this matter is the second clause out of the seven that appeared in the letter of appointment as prime minister that he received from [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas... Shtayyeh continued: 'We are ready for reconciliation. The government and the Fatah Movement are opening their doors to the Hamas Movement to end this dark chapter in our history. If our viewpoints on the reconciliation will not be consistent, let us turn to the people so that they will decide in elections.'"
