the ruling Alawite sect’s own minority status. Yet forces loyal to President

up arms to defend the regime.
Meanwhile, the rebel forces in Syria resent the Christians for their historic alignment with Assad and the jihadist militias in particular are taking their rage out on the vulnerable Christians, attempting to subjugate them and even drive them out. Priests have been kidnapped and tortured. Nuns have been paraded in the streets as spoils of war. Churches and even entire Christian villages have been looted and destroyed..."
