Ayalon, Erekat trade barbs over 'West Bank' video (Jerusalem Post)
"Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon entered into a "battle of statements" Monday with Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat over a six-minute, minimalistic YouTube video Ayalon made which asserted that Judea and Samaria are disputed, not occupied, territories, and that the settlements are not illegal..The video entitled "The Truth About the West Bank" -- a brief historical narrative that tackles what Ayalon says is the "very simple question" of from whom Israel conquered the West Bank -- has garnered nearly 120,000 hits on YouTube since it was uploaded some two weeks ago.
It also earned Erekat's wrath. In a statement Erekat put out last week and carried by the Palestinian WAFA news agency, Erekat expressed shock at what he called the "offensive" video.“With this video, the Israeli government has left no doubt on its pro-conflict agenda,” Erekat said. “Now, the international community knows the Israeli government is committed to denying the Palestinian people their inalienable right to self-determination and on continuing their illegal and colonial enterprise in the occupied Palestinian territory..."

Understanding UN Bias Against Israel -- Invite to Durban 3 Protest

Stort köpcenter öppnades i Gaza
Biggest mall in Gaza Strip opens its doors
"Gaza: The biggest mall in the Gaza Strip opened its doors on Tuesday with several hundreds of residents thronging the complex.
The inaugural celebrations of the Al Andalusia Mall were as big as the mall itself, which houses branded clothes, cosmetics, office supplies, toys, shoes and appliances, etc...
...The residents were more excited over the size of the mall and the escalators rather than shopping."

Israel - judarnas land

Gaza rustar upp
IDF doesn’t view rocket attacks as real escalation
Despite the continued rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, the IDF does not appear to be preparing for a large-scale operation, such as Operation Cast Lead in 2009.
The understanding in the defense establishment is that the approximately 20 rockets that landed in Israel since last week have been fired by radical Islamic groups affiliated with al-Qaida and global jihad, made up of former Hamas operatives...
...One of the main problems with Gaza today is that any future Israeli operation would likely have to be dramatically different than it was in 2009.Then, the main strategy was to separate the southern part of the Gaza Strip from the North, to cut off arms supplies to northern Gaza – the location of most of the rocket launchers – and to hit Hamas infrastructure hard from the air throughout the Strip.Today, Military Intelligence estimates Hamas and Islamic Jihad have obtained more than 10,000 rockets and missiles – including a large stockpile of Iranian Fajr-5 rockets that can reach Tel Aviv – close to what Hezbollah had on the eve of the Second Lebanon War in 2006. A year ago, the terror groups were believed to have just a few thousands rockets, but the revolution in Egypt has completely altered the balance of power between Israel and Gaza.Practically speaking, this buildup has major operational ramifications for the IDF and means Palestinian terror groups now store their rockets and launchers throughout the region. In order to effectively stop rocket fire into Beersheba, Ashdod, Ashkelon and Tel Aviv, the IDF will have to operate throughout the entire Strip.Israel is extremely concerned by the major increase in weapons and explosives smuggling into Gaza since Hosni Mubarak’s downfall in February. Already in April, The Jerusalem Post reported one of the first results of the revolution was the interim government’s decision to stop construction of a steel barrier that Egypt had been building along its border with Gaza in an effort to curb smuggling.
Israeli sources: Arab Spring let Palestinians ramp up Gaza arms smuggling
The revolutions in the Arab world, especially the Egyptian security forces' diminished control in the Sinai, have allowed the Palestinians to exponentially increase their weapons smuggling into the Gaza Strip, senior defense officials say.
In the past few months, Hamas has acquired improved high-trajectory rockets, ready-made explosive devices, anti-tank missiles and possibly anti-aircraft missiles, the sources told Haaretz.

6 in 10 Palestinians reject 2-state solution, survey finds
"Asked about the fate of Jerusalem, 92% said it should be the capital of Palestine, 1% said the capital of Israel, 3% the capital of both, and 4% a neutral international city.Seventy-two percent backed denying the thousands of years of Jewish history in Jerusalem, 62% supported kidnapping IDF soldiers and holding them hostage, and 53% were in favor or teaching songs about hating Jews in Palestinian schools. When given a quote from the Hamas Charter about the need for battalions from the Arab and Islamic world to defeat the Jews, 80% agreed. Seventy-three percent agreed with a quote from the charter (and a hadith, or tradition ascribed to the prophet Muhammad) about the need to kill Jews hiding behind stones and trees."

Palestinians Cannot Accept Less than 100% (Khaled Abu Toameh)
"Like the radicals, the "moderate" camp is also saying that it will not and cannot make any concessions to Israel on its territorial demands.
With such positions, it is hard to see how the peace process could lead to anything positive. The radicals do not want to negotiate with Israel because they do not recognize its right to exist and believe it should be wiped off the face of the earth. The so-called moderates say they are ready to return to the negotiating table, but only if Israel agrees in advance to give them 100% of their demands.
Yet the central problem is that even if Israel does accept all their demands, neither camp is willing to commit to ending the conflict. This is basically why the 2000 Camp David summit failed – because Yasser Arafat was not prepared to sign any document that called for end of conflict even after a peace deal were reached between Israel and the Palestinians.
Further, no "moderate" Palestinian leader would dare to sign such a document out of fear of being denounced by his people -- and the rest of the Arab and Islamic countries -- for having "sold out" to Israel by giving up the claim to all of the land."

PART I
FOUNDATIONS OF THE INTERNATIONAL LEGAL RIGHTS OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF ISRAEL
The boundaries of the "Palestine" referred to in the claimants‟ submissions included territories west and east of the Jordan River. The submissions of the Jewish claimants specified that the ultimate purpose of the mandate would be the "creation of an autonomous commonwealth," provided "that nothing must be done that might prejudice the civil and religious rights of the non-Jewish communities at present established in Palestine." The resulting Mandate for Palestine, approved by the Council of the League of Nations in July 1922, was an international treaty and, as such, was legally binding...
...The policy to be given effect in the Mandate for Palestine was consistent with the Balfour Declaration in significantly recognizing the historic, cultural and religious ties of the Jewish people to the Holy Land and the fundamental principle that Palestine should be reconstituted as the national home of the Jewish people. It is particularly relevant to underline the inclusion in the terms of the Mandate (through Article 2) of the fundamental principle set out in the Preamble of this international agreement that "recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country."
The primary objective of the Mandate was to provide a home for the Jewish people – including Jewish people dispersed worldwide – in their ancestral home, as they alone among the peoples of the world, had no other homeland. The Arab people, who already exercised sovereignty in a number of States, were guaranteed protection of their civil and religious rights under the Mandate as long as they wished to remain, even after the State of Israel was ultimately formed in 1948. Moreover, Trans-Jordan was meanwhile added as a territory under Arab sovereignty, carved out of the very mandated territory at issue, by the British, prior to the actual signing of the Mandate in 1922 (see below).
When the Council of the League of Nations approved the Mandate for Palestine in April 1922, it became binding on all 51 Members of the League. This act of the League enabled the ultimate realization of the long cherished dream of the restoration of the Jewish People to their ancient land and validated the existence of historical facts and events linking the Jewish People to Palestine. For the members of the Supreme Council, these historical facts were considered to be accepted and established. In the words of Neville Barbour, "In 1922, international sanction was given to the Balfour Declaration by the issue of the Palestine Mandate."
The rights granted to the Jewish People in the Mandate for Palestine were to be given effect in all of Palestine. It thus follows that the legal rights of the claimants to sovereignty over the Old City of Jerusalem similarly derive from the decisions of the Supreme Council of the Principal Allied Powers in San Remo and from the terms of the Mandate for Palestine approved by the Council of the League of Nations...
...Thus, in a word, the primary foundations in international law for the claim based on "historic rights" or "historic title" of the Jewish People in respect of Palestine are the San Remo decisions of April 1920, the Mandate for Palestine of July 1922, approved by the Council of the League of Nations and bearing the signatures of that international treaty by the Principal Allied Powers in July 1922, and the Covenant of the League of Nations itself (Art. 22). The rights thereby granted to the Jewish People (with the exception of the provisions of Article 25 of the Mandate, relating to Trans-Jordan) were aimed at the establishment of a Jewish national home throughout Palestine. These rights have never been rescinded...
...
Take for example, the "Palestinian" identity. At the time of the San Remo decision and the resulting Mandate for Palestine, the territory then known as "Palestine" was designated for the reconstitution of a National Home for the Jewish People only, expressly for the "reconstitution" of their national home. While care was taken to protect the rights of Arab inhabitants, the Jews alone were a People without a country. Indeed, this was the very purpose of the Mandate for Palestine and its predecessor the Balfour Declaration. At the time of the Mandate, it would have been more accurate to refer to "Palestinian Jews" and "Palestinian Arabs" (along with various other non-Jewish inhabitants). But because of the creation of the State of Israel, the Palestinian Jews reclaimed their ancient name of "Israelis" while the non-Jews (mainly but not all Arabs) appropriated the name "Palestinians", with the foreseeable result that they are viewed as being the rightful inhabitants of the Land. In actual fact, the Land called "Palestine" covers territory that the Jews have called the "Holy Land" well before the name "Palestine" was first used by the Greeks and Romans. In a word, the territory known as "Palestine" has never
either since this name has been applied or before – been an Arab nation or been designated to be an Arab nation. But this nomenclature carries great psychological impact with the inference that it is the former Arab inhabitants of Palestine that are the true "Palestinians", that they belong in "Palestine" and that they have been displaced from territory that was their ancestral heritage, rather than that of the Jewish "Palestinians" who in actual fact had no other „home‟.
