Fatahmötet i Betlehem har också enats om att det var Israels fel att Arafat dog. I övrigt är man oeniga och det påstås att organisationen till och med kan spricka.

Det verkar finnas tre olika fraktioner vid mötet.
-De gamla ledarna som inte vill släppa ifrån sig makten. Alltså Abbas och de andra kända namnen.
-Den unga generationen, där bl.a. Barghouti som sitter i israelisk fängelse är ett starkt namn.
-Gaza representeras av Dahlan som också räknas till de unga. Representanterna från Gaza har hindrats av Hamas att resa till mötet Betlehem vilket naturligtvis väckt oro för att Gaza blir underrepresenterat i de organ som skall väljas.

Ögonvittnen säger att säkerhetsvakter misshandlade två delegater som protesterade mot att ledarna inte presenterade någon detaljerad redogörelse för de senaste tjugo årens verksamhet. (Det har inte hållits någon generalförsamkings möte på över tjugo år)

On Aug. 4-5, 2009, the Fatah movement will convene its Sixth General Conference - the first such gathering in 20 years and the first since the 1993 signing of the Oslo Accords. This official gathering offers a historic and unique opportunity for Fatah, and for Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of both Fatah and the Palestinian Authority, to officially and publicly eradicate four Fatah principles that are basic foundations of the conflict. This would demonstrate to the world and to Palestinians that the Palestinians have joined the peace process.

The convening of the Fatah Sixth General Conference
