Helen Thomas sade 2010 att : Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine. Go home, Poland, Germany and America and everywhere else.”

"The Palestine Authority held reception at its Washington DC consulate on Monday to honor disgraced White House reporter Helen Thomas for her lifelong journalism career and commitment to the Palestinian cause. In the presence of several ambassadors, journalists, human rights activists and American Arab leaders, the prize was presented by Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Executive Committee of the PLO on behalf of PA president (and PLO chairman) Mahmoud Abbas. Thomas, 91, was forced to retire two years ago after a video of her making anti-Semitic remarks at a party were posted on the internet. As a result, her popularity in the Arab/Muslim world, especially among the Palestinians, skyrocketed. She defended her record by claiming to be the victim of a conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the PA security forces on Monday arrested another Palestinian journalist for posting comments critical of the PA government on Facebook. Tarek Khamis, who works for the Palestinian Zaman Press news agency posted comments critical of the arrest of some of his colleagues for the same offense, and was promptly taken into custody.

The Arabic Network For Human Rights Information, based in Cairo, issued a statement that the PA’s treatment of journalists was a “dangerous precedent and an assault on freedom of expression in the Palestinian territories” adding that “journalists are entitled to express their opinions without fear of being imprisoned or harassed.”

“This is a totalitarian regime” added another Palestinian journalist. “What would happen when we fulfill our dream of having our own state? We will all be sitting with Al-Shayeb [in prison].”
