Israel har beslagtagit ett fartyg med en mycket stor vapenlast på väg från Iran till Syrien och Hizzbollah. Fartyget har eskorterats till hamnen i Ashdod, Israel, för att undersökas närmare.
Man säger att vapenlasten är 10 gånger större än Karine A som Israel bordade 2002 när den försökte föra vapen till Arafat och palestinierna.
Enligt FN beslut är det förbjudet att exportera vapen till Hizzbollah. Iran har trotsat förbudet men det verkar som om de nu skulle bli tagna på bar gärning.

Trots att det finns klara bevis för att fartyget transporterade vapen förnekar Syriens utrikesminister allt.

"Unfortunately there are official pirates disrupting the movement of goods between Iran and Syria," he told reporters on a visit to Teheran. "I stress, the ship was not carrying Iranian arms bound for Syria, nor was it carrying material for manufacturing weapons in Syria. It was carrying [commercial] goods from Syria to Iran."
Upprustningen pågår alltså för fullt vid Israels norra gräns och i tisdags rapporterades det att det är lika illa vid gränsen till Gaza. Hamas har använt det relativt lugna läget till att rusta upp och de har nu tillgång till raketer med en räckvidd på 60 km, vilket betyder att de kan nå Tel-Aviv området.

Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, director of Military Intelligence, announced Tuesday that Hamas launched a rocket some 60 kilometers into the sea, apparently as an experiment. Such a rocket, if fired from the northernmost point of the Gaza Strip, could strike the southern cities of the Gush Dan area - including Rishon Letzion, Holon and Bat Yam - and possibly reach as far as Tel Aviv itself. Although Yadlin didn't specify the type of the weapon used, it appears to be a standard, foreign-made rocket smuggled into Gaza. Yadlin told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Hamas has accumulated an arsenal of rockets slightly larger than the arsenal it possessed before last winter's Operation Cast Lead.

Palestinierna vägrar förhandla
Palestinierna protesterar kraftigt mot Clintons krav på återupptagna fredsförhandlingar utan förhandsvillkor.
Israel är beredd att omedelbart återuppta fredsförhandlingarna men av uttalandena att döma verkar palestinierna vara beredda på att låta situationen "explodera".
Situationen på västbanken har förbättrats betydligt det senaste året. Området har en stark ekonomisk tillväxt, flera vägspärrar har avlägsnats vilket betyder att röreslsefriheten har ökat, och säkerheten på gatorna är mycket bättre, delvis tack vara de palestinska säkerhetstyrkorna som utbildatas av USA.
Man kan nästan säga att det skulle vara typiskt om de palestinska ledarna nu skulle välja att riva ner allt och starta nya våldsamheter. Naturligtvis ger de Israel skulden, det gör de alltid. Sjävkritik hör inte till de palestinska ledarnas egenskaper.
De USA utbildade säkerhetstyrkorna är inget militärt hot mot Israel men om palestinierna väljer att använda dem till att attackera Israel kan de ställa till med stor skada.

- Nabil Abu Rudaineh, a spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said that the region was on the verge of a volcanic eruption because of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's refusal to accept the Palestinians' demand to halt settlement construction.
- Netanyahu has said that he was willing to talk with the Palestinians without any preconditions.
- Netanyahu repeated for the cabinet members a number of public comments he had made Saturday night with Clinton. He listed for them steps he had taken to improve life for the Palestinians, including steps to ease travel restrictions by removing road blocs and checkpoints in the West Bank.

Judarna i Yemen räddas undan förföljelser (uppdaterad)
2500 år av judisk bosättning i Yemen är nu över skriver Jerusalem Post i sin ledare. ( Yemen's Jews. The End )
De flesta av judarna i Yemen flyttade till Israel 1950. Av de några hundra som lämnade kvar räddas nu de flesta undan förföljelser till USA.

Han är övertygad om att det kommer att utkämpas flera krig mellan Israel och arabstaterna och motiverar det med muslimernas religiösa övertygelse.

USA:s utrikesminister Hillary Clinton är i Mellanöstern för att försöka få igång fredsförhandlingarna mellan Israel och palestinierna.
Clinton sade nu klart och tydligt att palestinierna inte kan kräva ett totalstopp på byggandet i de judiska bosättningarna för att komma till förhandlingsbordet. Byggstoppet är något man måste förhandla om, inte något Israel måste gå med på innan förhandlingarna kommer igång.
Palestinierna vägrar ändå fortfarande att förhandla och ett eventuellt val bland palestinierna i januari gör det svårt för Abbas att backa från de orealistiska kraven.
Det är främst USA och speciellt president Obama som får ta på sig skulden för att palestinierna nu vägrar förhandla, det var Obama som gav palestinierna intrycket att USA också krävde ett totalt byggstopp.

After meeting Israeli and Palestinian leaders during a visit Saturday, Clinton called for an unconditional resumption of peace talks and welcomed Israel's offer for a slowdown in settlement activity.

During Clinton's meeting with Netanyahu on Saturday, she rejected Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's demand that Israel freeze all settlement activity as a precondition to negotiations.
Stopping construction in the settlements "has never been a precondition, it has always been an in issue within the negotiations," Clinton said at a joint press conference with Netanyahu in Jerusalem
