Jag motsätter mig väpnad kamp-för tillfället

Mahmoud Abbas, den "moderata" ledaren för palestinierna som omvärlden satsar allt på, gav några belysande kommentarer i en intervju idag.
"Jag motsätter mig väpnad kamp, för tillfället, men senare kan det vara en möjlighet för det palestinska folket.
Abbas var också stolt över att han avfyrade det första skottet 1965 och sedan dess har han varit med och utbildat många "motståndskämpar" bland annat Hizzbollah

We reject the Jewishness of the state
The Palestinian President emphasized his rejection of what is described as the Jewishness of the state [Israel], and said: "We rejected this proposal at the Annapolis conference last November in the USA, and the conference was almost aborted because of it..."
The Resistance [Editor's note: PA euphemism for terror]
The Palestinian President spoke about the resistance, saying: "I was honored to be the one to shoot the first bullet in 1965 [Fatah terror against Israel began in 1965] ,and having taught resistance to many in this area and around the world, defining it and when it is beneficial and when it is not... we had the honor of leading the resistance.We taught everyone what resistance is, including the Hezbollah, who were trained in our camps [i.e. PLO camps in the 60s and 70s]."

Recognition of Israel
"I don't demand that the Hamas movement recognize Israel. I only demanded of the [Palestinian] national unity government that would work opposite Israel in recognition of it. And this I told to Syrian President Bashir Assad, and he supported this idea."

Fortsatta oroligheter vid gränsen till Gaza

Situationen vid gränsen till Gaza börjar mer och mer likna ett regelrätt krig.Idag har ett tjugotal raketer avfyrats mot Sderot, också Ashkelon utsatts för raketbekjutning, åtminstone 8 raketer (Katuysha Grad) har landat i Ashkelon,bl.a blev det en direktträff på ett hus.

Israel har i sin tur angripit terroristmål i Gaza men också civila verkar ha drabbats.Israel verkar inte för tillfället kunna stoppa raketbekjutningen. Man vill inte starta en större offensiv i Gaza (kanske vad Hamas önskar) och en del förespråkar nu att man skall angripa ledarna inom Hamas.

Kassamraketer mot skola och sjukhus-en död

En studerande på Sapir College i Sderot dödades idag av en Kassamraket som träffade skolans parkeringsplats . Under dagens lopp har över 30 raketer skjutits mot området kring den israeliska staden Sderot.
En raket landade också utanför sjukhuset i Ashkelon, dit de skadade vanligtvis förs från Sderot. Totalt fyra raketer har hittills idag träffat Ashkelon.
En annan raket träffade en fabriksmatsal i Sderot endast några minuter efter att över 100 arbetare lämnat rummet. Det blev materiella skador men tack vare att rummet var tomt undveks en större katastrof.
Både Hamas och en utbrytargrupp från Fatah tog på sig ansvaret för dagens attacker.

Tidigare på dagen dödade den israeliska armén fem Hamasmän som efter att de fått sin utbildning i Iran nu planerade en större terrorattack mot Israel.

Mahmud Abbas sade i en intervju idag att al-Qaida samarbetar med Hamas speciellt i Gaza. När Hamas sprängde gränsmuren tilll Egypten för en tid sedan och gränsen var öppen under några dagar tog sig medlemmar ur al-Qaida in i Gaza.

Arabiska informationsministrar begränsar yttrandefriheten

World Evangelical Alliance Religious Liberty News & Analysis rapporterar att de arabiska informationsministrarna kommit överens om att begränsa yttrandefriheten i satellit TV-kanalerna. Quatar och Libanon var de enda staterna som motsatte sig de nya reglerna.
Enligt reglerna får programmen inte förolämpa ledarna,nationella eller religiösa symboler i arabvärlden. Inte heller skada den sociala harmonin eller traditionella värden.
Arabiska mänskorättsgrupper har skarpt fördömt reglerna.

At the request of Egypt and with the support of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Ministers of Information gathered in Cairo on 12 February 2008 to consider a new charter to regulate Satellite TV content. Entitled 'Principles for Organising Satellite TV in the Arab World', the charter is both defensive and defiant, aimed at protecting Arab regimes and Islam, whilst defying all advocates and sponsors of progress, openness and liberty. Qatar (home to Al Jazeera TV) and Lebanon were the only Arab states to object to the charter. All other Arab states agreed to adopt it, with the Egyptian information minister, Anas al-Fiqi, saying his country would be the first to implement the charter.The charter requires that satellite broadcasting not offend the leaders or national and religious symbols in the Arab world, and not damage social harmony, national unity, public order or traditional values. It must conform to the religious and ethical values of Arab society, taking into account its religions, prophets, sects and symbols, and it must protect Arab identity from the harmful effects of globalisation.The Arab Committee for Human Rights (ACHR) immediately issued a strong condemnation of the Cairo Charter and expressed its support for the Arab TV channels targeted by the resolution.

Hamas barnprogram hotar nu Danmark

I Hamas TV:s barnprogram riktar man nu barnens hat mot Danmark. "Om de upprepar det kommer vi att döda dem" säger den charmiga kaninen. "Jag skall äta upp dem."(det handlar om Mohammed teckningarna)
I programmet veckan innan lovade kaninen att äta upp judarna.
Barnen uppmuntras också till att bojkotta israeliska och danska produkter.
Det är lite ologiskt att barnen uppmanas att bojkotta vissa produkter om situationen verkligen är så katastrofal i Gaza som man vill ge sken av.

Hamas children's TV dedicated a program to hatred of Denmark, the West and Israel, climaxing with a statement about the West by the co-host, a giant rabbit character named Assud:
"If they repeat it we will kill them ... I will bite them and eat them!"

The program focuses on the demand to boycott Danish and Israeli products. Denmark and the West are targeted because of the cartoons featuring Muhammad that first appeared in a Danish newspaper. Israel is targeted because it exists. Saraa, the young TV hostess, describes the publication of the Muhammad cartoons as "the West's attack against the Messenger [Muhammad]."

Palestinian children phone into the program to condemn the "cowardly infidels" and vow to fight them.The children's program, Tomorrow's Pioneers, has used its previous animal character co-hosts, the Mickey Mouse lookalike Farfur and the bee Nahul, to champion violence, promote hatred of Israel and preach about world Islamic supremacy. To further reinforce its anti-Israel message, Hamas has killed off both characters and blamed Israel.

Religious Liberty Trends 2007-2008

Religionen spelar en viktig roll i Mellanöstern.Rapporten "Religious Liberty Trends 2007-2008" från World Evangelical Alliance fokuserar på två globala trender och ger nyttig bakgrundsinformation:
1) apostasy, apostaphobia, and postmodernism;
2) the New Cold War.
Most localised trends, tensions, repressions and "hot" conflicts are actually expressions or symptoms of these two global trends.

A WORD ON THE MIDDLE EAST
"I personally agree with Omar Salman's assessment that an era of Iranian hegemony in the Middle East is upon us. As was explained and forecast in the WEA RLC Trends 2006-2007 posting entitled "Shi'ite Ascendancy" (link 9), the Shi'ites are seducing the Sunnis and uniting the sects through violence against Israel. They started this process in 2006, using Hezballah (Shi'ite proxy of Iran) in Lebanon and Hamas (Sunni, but sponsored by Iran) in Gaza. While this is obviously bad news for Israel, it is also bad news for the Christians of the Middle East, because eventually this violence will target them as well, especially as US influence wanes -- or departs. For as the old Muslim war-cry goes: "Baad a- Sabt biji Yom al-Ahad" ("After Saturday comes Sunday", meaning, after we deal with the Jews we'll deal with the Christians)."

Mamma och två barn skadad i raketattack från Gaza

En tioårig pojke och en mamma och hennes baby skadades idag i raketattacker mot den israeliska staden Sderot.
Tidigare denhär månaden förlorade en åttaårig pojke, Osher Twito, sitt ben i en raketattack mot staden.
Den tyske ministern Heidemarie Wiecorek-Zeul som besöker Israel uttryckte sympati och idignation över att ett barn igen skadats av raketbekjutningen. Hon uppmanade dem som avfyrar raketerna att upphöra med beskjutningen och låta människor som vill leva i fred göra det.
I en artikel i Haaretz skriver Moshe Arens att det är bättre ju förr Israel går in i Gaza med marktrupper för att sätta stop för raketbeskjutningen. Ju längre Israel väntar desto bättre kommer Hamas att vara förberedd och operationen kommer därmed att bli farligare och svårare.
Ett av problemen för beslutsfattarna är att trots att den dagliga raketbeskjutningen gör livet svårt i gränsområdena till Gaza har beskjutningen krävt relativt få dödsoffer. En stor militäroffensiv i Gaza skulle antagligen kräva ganska många soldaters liv och det verkar som man in i det längsta vill undvika detta. Israel är ett litet land och varje dödsoffer, civil eller soldat, är ett hårt slag för samhället.
