Fred i Mellanösten har skrivit en artikel med rubriken ovan som beskriver vad som nu pågår i fredsförhandlingarna ( eller snarare hotet om att avbryta förhandlingarna) mellan Israel och palestinierna.
Så planerade Abbas att dra sig ur fredsförhandlingarna
Den palestinske presidenten Mahmoud Abbas förtjänar en eloge. Hans trick ser ut att lyckas. I två år vägrade han att fredsförhandla med Israel, inkl. under nio månader av byggstopp för bosättningar på judiskägd mark på Västbanken. Han kom till förhandlingarna först den 1 september när det endast var drygt tre veckor kvar av byggstoppet. Nu hotar han att lämna fredsförhandlingarna med Israel om inte tiomånadersstoppet förlängs, vilket är nära politiskt omöjligt för den israeliska regeringen efter en lång period av obesvarade eftergifter. Bakom det palestinska agerandet finns en ovilja att nå en slutlig fredsuppgörelse med Israel. Det förklarar varför Abbas avvisat tidigare fredserbjudanden där frågorna om bosättningar, gränser och Jerusalem varit nästan lösta, samt vägrat komma till förhandlingarna förrän i elfte timmen, så att skulden för haveriet läggs på Israel...

Hamas kommer att fortsätta döda judar
Hamas ledare i Damaskus Khaled Mahaal gör i en intervju klart att Hamas kommer att fortsätta döda judar.
Om inte Israel tvingas tillbaka till "1967 års gränser" kommer också motståndet = terrorismen att återupptas.
Man kan bara konstatera att terrorismen har aldig upphört. Det är bara en måndad sedan Hamas dödade fyra israeler och raketbeskjutningen från Gaza har inte heller upphört.

Hamas leader in Damascus Khaled Mashaal said that if the international community does not force Israel to to retreat to the 1967 borders, the Palestinian people's only recourse will be "resistance." Mashaal's comments came in an interview aired on CNN on Monday.
When asked about last months terror attack near Kiryat Arba, in which four Israelis were killed by Hamas gunmen, Mashaal said that Hamas will continue to "kill illegal settlers on our land." He stated that Israeli settlers were the source of the problem and he failed to understand why the international community gets upset when "we defend our people by confronting Israeli killings."

FN:s mänskorättsråd håller stilen
Fred i Mellanöstern kommenterar FN:s mänskorättsråds rapport om den israeliska bordningen av skeppet Mavi Marmara:
BBC: Endast Ship to Gaza uttalade sig i rapport från FN-råd
"Det hade varit en sensation om inte FN:s så kallade ”Råd för mänskliga rättigheter” i Genève, under ledning av länder som Saudiarabien, Pakistan och Kuba hade fördömt Israel med anledning av Ship to Gaza. Rådet domineras helt av världens grövsta skurkstater i Mellanöstern och Afrika, och hade redan lagt skulden på Israel innan rapporten skrevs. Rådet har under de senaste åren drivit igenom dussintals hårda fördömanden mot Israel men på sin höjd utfärdat något enstaka ”beklagande” när det gäller folkmordsregimen i Sudan, och mestadels förhållit sig helt tyst gentemot förtryckarstater som Iran, Saudiarabien, Zimbabwe och Kina...."

Palestinierna vägrar godta "två stater för två folk"
Den palestinske premiärministern Fayyad, den mest moderate av moderater lämnade ett möte i protest mot att Israels viceutrikesminister vägrade skriva under en sammanfattning från möte om det inte stod "två stater för två folk" istället för endat "två stater".
Palestinierna vägrar fortfarande envist att erkänna judarnas rätt till en egen stat.

De palestinska myndigheterna har bekräftat att det fortfarande är belagt med dödsstraff att sälja land till israeler.

Mahmoud Abbas säger idag att han inte kommer att fortsätta fredsförhandlingarna en enda dag om byggstoppet i de judiska bosättningarna på västbanken hävs.
Man kan fråga sig varför Abbas väntade med att inleda fredsförhandlingarna tills det återstod endast några veckor av det tio månader långa byggstoppet om det är så viktigt för honom att byggstoppet är i kraft under förhandlingarna.

Judarnas rätt till en judisk stat
Palestinierna vägrar erkänna Israel som en judisk stat och även Egyptens presidents uttalande nyligen kan tolkas på samma sätt.

According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the real root of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians had been their ongoing refusal to recognize "the right of the Jewish people to a state of their own in their historic homeland" and he has singled out this issue as a key "prerequisite for ending the conflict." Netanyahu's proposal puts back on the global agenda a fundamental Jewish national right that was once axiomatic but today is rarely mentioned.
Ninety years ago at the San Remo Conference following World War I (April 1920), the Supreme Council of the Principal Allied Powers determined the allocation of the Middle Eastern territories of the defeated Ottoman Empire and decided to incorporate the 1917 Balfour Declaration supporting a Jewish national home in Palestine into the British Mandate for the territory, a move which confirmed international recognition of the right of Jewish self-determination.
The language adopted at San Remo was a triumph for Zionism, which saw a national solution to the problem of the Jews. It recognized the existence of the Jews as more than individuals who subscribed to a certain religion - Judaism - but rather as a corporate group deserving of national expression, in this case in the form of a national home. And this home was to be in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews. The language agreed upon at San Remo was, as British Foreign Secretary Lord Curzon put it, "the Magna Carta of the Zionists." It was clear at the time that the term "national home" really meant a state.
Jewish self-determination was part of a process that ended up decolonizing the Middle East in an effort that led to Arab as well as Jewish independence. Repeated recent associations of Israel with colonialism - an ahistorical canard that erases the millennia-long association of Jews with the Land of Israel as an indigenous people - ignores the benefit that Zionism actually brought to the Arabs through the process of decolonization. The British Peel Commission Report of 1937 was quite clear on this. Indeed, it was the return of the Jews to the Land of Israel that gave critical mass to a distinct and unique Palestinian identity as well.
The Jews have been brought back into history through the establishment of the State of Israel. This was accomplished with the aid of international institutions which recognized the justice and importance of Jewish national self-determination. These institutions accepted the validity of Zionism, the national liberation movement of the Jews. Today, those who deny the Jewish right to national self-determination, more than 60 years after the founding of Israel, engage in a new kind of anti-Semitism.

Unidentified gunmen on Sunday set fore to Crazy Water Park, one of the Gaza Strip's most popular entertainment sites. Eyewitnesses said that at least 25 assailants participated in the pre-dawn attack. The gunmen beat the two night watchmen, bound their hands and confiscated their mobile phones before setting the complex on fire, they said.
...Last week the Hamas authorities closed down the Sama sea-side restaurant in Gaza City where a woman was seen smoking the nargila. Human rights activists said that Hamas has recently stepped up its efforts to impose strict Islamic teachings in the Gaza Strip. They noted that last week Hamas closed down the Aseel Horse Club, also under the pretext that it was operating without a proper license. Hamas policemen also raided the Beach Hotel and handed the owner an order closing it down for three days. The decision was taken because one of the hotel restaurants had allowed a woman to smoke the nargila. Two weeks ago Hamas policemen also stormed two halls in Gaza City where cultural events were taking place and kicked out the guests. The owners of the halls were requested to sign a document pledging that they would not host such events in the future...
