En rapport om Gazakriget 2014 publiceras för allmänheten i Israel idag.
Rapporten verkar ge stort utrymme åt hotet från Hamas tunnelnätverk som inte tagits på allvar inför kriget. Därför fanns det inte heller klara regler för hur armén skulle svara på hotet och attackerna som kom genom tunnlarna under gränsen mellan Israel och Gaza.
Det verkar också ha funnits en hel del oenighet bland beslutsfattarna om hur kriget skulle föras och information nådde inte alltid fram till dem som borde ha fått del av den.

Comptroller’s long-awaited findings about 2014 operation confirm army was unprepared for Hamas’s tunnels, prime minister failed to keep security cabinet in the loop.
The reports found significant gaps in the military’s intelligence in the lead-up to the war, as well as a lack of clearly defined operational plans for how to destroy the tunnels. Those failings may have led, the report said, to the unnecessary deaths of Israeli soldiers during the 50-day conflict.
But the Prime Minister’s Office bore the brunt of State Comptroller Yosef Shapira’s criticism, for its failure to sufficiently brief members of the security cabinet about the subterranean threat.
... In the time since the operation, the army and government have put into practice some, but not all, of the recommendations made by Shapira in his reports. Notably, the military has put a greater emphasis on tunnels, naming them as a primary threat in army chief Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot’s “IDF Strategy” paper.
“The tunnel issue is a top priority for the IDF, and the military has already begun putting the majority of the report’s comments and suggestions into practice,” the army said in response to the comptroller probe.

En artikel som beskriver hur märklig UNRWA, FN:s flyktingorgan för palestinierna är. Alla andra flyktingar i världen utom palestinierna handhas av UNHCR och målsättningen och arbetssätt för de två organisationerna är helt olika.
UNRWA har en anställd per 182 palestinska flyktingar, UNHCR har en anställd per 5500 flyktingar.
UNRWA arbetar för att de palestinska flyktingarna skall behålla sin flyktingstatus i generation efter generation, UNHCR arbetar för att integrera flyktingar i deras nya hemland för att undvika att flyktingstatus går i arv.

Nya bombhot mot judar i USA
Ett tiotal bombhot riktades i dag mot judiska institutioner i USA. Liknande händelser har inträffat 5 gånger tidigare detta år.
Inga bomber har hittats.

Mahmoud Abbas som i praktiken är diktator (eller vad skall man kalla en president som sitter kvar år efter år trots att mandatperioden gått ut) för de palestinska självstyrelseområdena inledde som första talare FN:s mänskorättsråds (UNHRC) 34:de session i Geneve.
Det är en beskrivande situation, både Abbas och rådet har som ett av sina främsta mål att svartmåla Israel.
"Fred i världen kan uppnås om tvåstatslösningen förverkligas...." sade Abbas.Han krävde också att FN upprättar en mekanism för att skydda palestinierna.

I natt sköts en raket från Gaza mot Israel. Ingen skadades i attacken och Israel har i dag svarat med flygattacker mot Hamas mål i Gaza.
Det är tre veckor sedan den senaste raketattacken från Gaza.

Human Right Watch och Israel
Human Right Watch spelar förnärmad efter att Israel nekat arbetsvisa åt organisationens regionala director Omar Shakir.
Men HRW har all orsak att se sig i spegeln. Om organisationen vill ge sken av att vara en organisation som opartiskt bevakar mänskliga rättigheter kanske det inte är så klokt att utnämna en person som stöder bojkottrörelsen mot Israel (BDS) och som kallar Israel för en apartheidstat till chef i området
Som Israel mycket riktigt vet finns det ingen orsak att tro att Omar Shakir skulle arbeta för att få fram sanningsenliga rapporter om situationen i Israel och på de palestinska områdena.

Shakir himself has campaigned against Israel and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. He has compared Israel to apartheid South Africa and equated Zionism to Afrikaner nationalism, which begat apartheid."

Bombhot mot judar i USA
