They lived in relative peace under the Assad dynasty, due to the ruling Alawite sect’s own minority status. Yet forces loyal to President Bashar Assad have turned on the Christians because not enough of them have taken up arms to defend the regime.

Meanwhile, the rebel forces in Syria resent the Christians for their historic alignment with Assad and the jihadist militias in particular are taking their rage out on the vulnerable Christians, attempting to subjugate them and even drive them out.
