Israeliskt bostadsbyggande fördöms världen över - naturligtvis

Varje gång byggplaner för bostäder på östra sidan om Gröna linjen tar ett steg närmare ett förverkligande protesterar omvärlden. Så också de senaste dagarna efter att planeringen av 558 nya bostäder i östra Jerusalem passerade ett steg i byråkratin.

Ett exempel på misslyckad journalism: CNN misslyckades totalt eller förvrängde nyheten enligt en rapport av Honest Reporting.

Israel bygger inte nya bosättningar utan nya bostäder i redan befintliga bosättningar, i det här fallet i Jerusalem (förstäder till Jerusalem) .

Fotot som CNN använder har inget med artikeln att göra, men ger ett intryck av att arabiska palestiniers hus förstörs för att bostäder skall byggas för judarna.


Honest Reporting:

1. The headline is inaccurate. As the text of the story itself states, Israel is building what CNN describes as “more than 550 settlement units” i.e. houses and apartments in existing neighborhoods. This is very different to the headline’s claim of “new settlements” which would imply the construction of completely new communities.
2. The photo of a demolished Palestinian house is completely unrelated to the story. Is CNN implying that Israel is destroying Palestinian homes to make room for Jewish ones? This is, of course, not the case. The legality or otherwise of Palestinian building is a separate issue to the story and is therefore entirely inappropriate.
