Israeliske ministern Itamar Ben Gvir besökte Tempelberget på minnesdagen av templets förstörelse. Han lär ska ha bett på platsen och sjungit psalmer tillsammans med andra besökare.
Det har fått omvärlden att reagera starkt. Händelsen var en provokation som kan sätta hela Mellanöstern i brand anser man. Ännu värre är det att Ben Gvir säger att han anser att judar har rätt att be på platsen.
Ben Gvir är en extremist som enligt min mening inte borde sitta i någon regering överhuvudtaget, men det är inte jag, och inte någon annan utomstående som väljer Israels regering. Det gör de israeliska medborgarna enligt de demokratiska spelregler som gäller i landet. Han tycker om att provocera och ställa till problem. Antagligen var hans uttalanden och hans sätt att besöka Tempelberget långt i från diplomatiska.
Premiärminister Netanyahu tycker inte om hans agerande och många rabbiner säger att det är totalt förbjudet för judar att besöka Tempelberget på grund av dess helighet.
Men ändå vill jag påstå att det är omoraliskt och hyckleri av värsta sort när utomstående, de må vara från USA eller Europa, säger att judar inte får besöka Tempelberget eller be där. Muslimerna säger så, men västvärlden med den historiska kunskap vi borde ha och med den moraliska resning vi tror oss ha har ingen rätt att säga så.
Tempelberget har varit en helig plats för judarna där man bett och tillbett Gud i omkring 3000 år. Om någon har rätt att komma dit för att be så är det judarna.
Muslimernas närvaro på platsen sträcker sig ungefär 1400 år bakåt i tiden. Om något skall beskrivas som en provokation så är det att muslimer har en helgedom på Tempelberget där de tillber Allah.
I stället för att bocka och buga för muslimvärlden borde västvärlden klart och tydligt säga att det inte är någon provokation när judar tillber på Tempelberget, det är deras naturliga rättighet. Inget som någon behöver klaga över.

While Jews mourned the destruction of the Temples on Tisha B’Av (9th of Av), the Palestinian Authority increased its denial of the Jewish connection to the land and increased its religious hate speech:
- “No one has a connection to the Western Wall except for the Muslims!”
- “The Western Wall and the Western Wall Plaza ... is an exclusive religious right of the Muslims... particularly not these foreign settlers (i.e., Jews) who never had any connection to this land”
- “This land belonged to the Palestinians, and it still belongs to the Palestinians, and it will belong to the Palestinians”
- “The issue between us and the Jews is an existential issue and not an issue of borders. Palestine is the possession of all Muslims... The entire Muslim nation must defend Palestine”
- “Let them [Palestinians] take precautions and take up their weapons so that this plot will not pass”
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “For thousands of years, Jerusalem was a Palestinian, Arab, and Canaanite city, and it is an Islamic Christian city... and the occupation (i.e., Israel) does not even have a minimal right to it. Let me be clear, sincere, and direct – not even a religious right. We do not recognize any religious right of theirs. Even the Al-Buraq Wall that they claim is the Western Wall is an Islamic waqf (i.e., a religious endowment)… All the claims and lies with which they [the Jews] are attempting to invent an alleged right for themselves will not change the Arab, Islamic, and Palestinian identity of the holy city [of Jerusalem].”
