Abbas klargör sin ståndpunkt

Senaste torsdag talade Abbas till unga Fatah aktivister i palestinsk TV.
Han klargjorde att:
- palestinierna aldrig kommer att erkänna en judisk stat
- 5 miljoner palestinska flyktingar och deras ättlingar skall ha möjlighet att återvända till Israel och få israeliskt medborgarskap
- varje byggnad och varje sten som Israel placerat på västbanken sedan 1967 är olaglig
- ett fredsförslag måste godkännas av alla palestinier världen över, från Kanada till Japan

I söndags fick Abbas stöd för sin hårda linje av Arabförbundets utrikesministrar som i ett uttalande sade att de avvisar ett erkännande av Israel som en judisk stat. (Ett eko från 1947-48)

Det som Abbas och arabvärlden således verkar kunna tänka sig att erkänna är ett arabiskt Israel där judarna lever som minoritet.
Judarna har levt som minoritet i arabvärlden i århundraden och vet vad det betyder, de kommer aldrig att gå med på att göra det i Israel.

"Now Abbas is going to mislead Obama into thinking that he is coming to meet with him not only as the "rightful" leader of the Palestinians but also as a representative of the Arab world. Never mind that the Arab League, which issued the statement, is considered extremely inefficient and incompetent and that no one in the Arab world takes it seriously.
But the Obama Administration does not seem to care. Obama and Kerry seem to want a deal at any cost, even if it is with a president who lost his legitimacy many years ago and even if the deal will unravel the day after.
Abbas also believes he can say no to Obama because the U.S. Administration will not take any retaliatory measures against the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinians do not take Obama seriously, especially in light of his failure in dealing with the crises in the Arab world and Ukraine."
