21.2% OF ISRAELI POPULATION LIVES BELOW THE POVERTY LINE - NEW REPORT (Jerusalem Post)
There are more than 1.7 million poor Israelis, some 21.2% of the population, according to the annual poverty report of the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi).
A total of 1,780,500 people, including 466,400 families and 814,800 children, live below the poverty line, according to the report, which was released on Monday and is based on data gathered by the Central Bureau of Statistics for 2017, the most recent year for which comprehensive information is available.
